President's Welcome

Welcome to Mansfield College Boat Club! We are a group of undergrads and postgrads, run by a student committee, who mainly row against other colleges in Oxford. We typically train several times a week and race at least once a term. Our foundational goal is to make rowing an accessible sport to everyone and anyone who wants to try it out.

Joining MCBC

Almost all of our members had never rowed before starting at MCBC and we welcome novices of all sporting abilities with open arms throughout the academic year. However, most new members join us in Michaelmas term (October) - this is the way to make the most of the college rowing calendar, and get the opportunity to race against the other colleges in the yearly novice regatta.

Our lower boats typically go out 1-2 times a week, and can be as relaxed or competitive as people want - it’s up to you. If you are motivated by competition, success and training hard to achieve a goal, being part of the first boat is a really rewarding experience, and a great bonding experience as a crew.  Anyone can progress to being in the first boat very quickly!

We welcome visiting students (VSPs) of all abilities to join the boat club during their time at Mansfield. Not only do VSPs feature in most of our racing crews, the club provides a great social community and alumni network. In Torpids 2017, the Women's Second VIII was nicknamed the "American Eagle" because of the high proportion of American visiting students, and many students who learned to row and/or cox at Mansfield have continued to do so beyond their time in Oxford.

Our Boathouse

We are based at Longbridges Boathouse (can be found on Google maps). It’s about a 10 minute cycle or 30 minute walk from college. This is where all of our boats are kept and where the majority of our training takes place, be it on the river or on the erg (rowing machine) in our upstairs erg room. Our club room is also at Longbridges, hosting social events and parties across the year.
